Bristol City Linked with Shock Move for Lyon Striker

Claudio Beauvue’s time at Olympique Lyonnais looks to be coming to an end this month. The French club, who paid €5 million to sign him from EA Guingamp in the summer are looking to cut their losses and there is a shock new club looking to land the 27-year-old.

France Football are reporting that English Championship side Bristol City are very interested in paying the €7 million that Lyon want to bring the striker to Ashton Gate.

Beauvue has scored five goals in 19 games this season, but his performances have failed to impress the Lyon staff, and new boss Bruno Genesio is keen to sell in order to sign a new forward.

This is not the first time Bristol City have dipped into the French market, signing Jonathan Kodjia from SCO Angers in the summer.

With nine goals in 25 games for the 26-year-old, the move has been somewhat of a success, but with the club sitting in 22nd place, they certainly need some extra fire-power to keep them in the second tier. At Guingamp, Beauvue showed great aerial ability and superb talent at popping up at the right place at the right time to score some spectacular and important goals.

However, one problem for City would be trying to tempt the striker to drop down a level. Speaking to L’Equipe, the player’s entourage has made it clear that Beauvue has made his decision.

“Claudio is determined to go to Celta Vigo and nowhere else,” they told L’Equipe. But the Spanish side are struggling to meet the price tag, offering €4m plus bonuses.

That could still open the door for Bristol City or fellow Championship side Derby County to make a move.
